Working for General Practice in Northern Ireland

NILMC is committed to working to support its members via local LMCs and regional NIGPC.

As a body representing general practitioners, we are aware of the increasing challenges of modern primary care for both practices and doctors.

Your local LMC can provide practical, confidential advice and support for both practitioners and practices on a broad range of issues.

What do LMCs do for GPs?

  • Representation

NI LMCs represent all NI GPs and trainees working in any setting. We represent the views of GPs to the local Integrated Care Office of the HSCB, and to any other appropriate organisations or agencies.

  • Helping Individual GPs/Practices

As an independent body with no political constraints, we can act as an advocate and can offer help on all matters relevant to general practice. GPs & Practices are welcome to contact us for help and advice to assist

  • Dissemination of Information

We regard communication with constituent GPs as essential. We hope that through utilising many different forms of communication we are able to help GPs to prioritise the information and keep abreast of the main issues impacting on general practice.

  • Local Negotiations

We have an extensive network of contacts, through a combination of regular meetings or ad hoc meetings when particular issues of mutual interest or concern arise.

This includes HSCB, Dept of Health, PHA, BMA NI, All 5 NI Trusts; RCN, Federation Support Unit & the wider Federation community, BSO.

  • National Negotiations

We also have an extensive network of contacts nationally.

NI LMCs represent NI General Practice at a number of national forums including the UK wide BMA General Practitioners Committee

  • LMC Buying Group

The 4 Northern Ireland LMCs - Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western - joined the LMC Buying Group in 2015.
